Northbest Distributors - Our History

Northbest Disrtibutors is a 100% Northern owned company operating out of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and has operated since 1999. We are a full-line foodservice industry distributor operating from our warehouse at 347 Old Airport Road in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Founded by Garland Grayston in 1999, Northbest Distributors came to be known for its outstanding customer service and product selection.

In 2023 Northbest Distributors was acquired by Det’on Cho Corporation and continues the legacy of outstanding service and product selection backed by the financial strength and vast distribution network of Det’on Cho.

Northbest is a distributor well-known brands like Maple Leaf Meats, Lilydale Poultry, Cargill Meats, Canada Bread, Dairyland/Saputo, and McCain Foods.

Northbest is also a representative for The Grocery People (division of the Federated Co-Op’s), a full-line retail and foodservice supplier located in Edmonton. This affiliation allows Northbest to offer an extensive line of brand name grocery products and provides a varied selection of foodservice and retail products, as well as quality produce.

The extensive customer base ranges from large mining camps to small corner stores. Northbest is a supplier to hotels, restaurants, lodges, hospitals, institutions, national fast-food franchises and remote northern retail and foodservice companies. In addition to the local distribution network, Northbest Distributors also offers foodmail services to remote Northern communities.
